Dance Styles
Ballet is a form of classical dance demanding highly developed technique, grace and precision, executed according to specific gestures and flowing patterns. Both Jazz dance and modern dance techniques are based on the basics of the old ballet tradition. To excel in jazz dance, the dancer must master both modern dance and ballet techniques.
Break dance, also known as breaking and b-boying is part of Hip-Hop culture. This unique form of dancing is very acrobatic and creative. Breakdance has been performed in countless shows, music videos and at dance clubs.
Street dance is a living and evolving dance form representing current trends of youth dance based on elements of improvisation and influenced by current popular music.
Contemporary dance focuses on examining the choreographic and performing process more than strict dance technique. Contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques and an array of still developing philosophies of movement based on study of the human body and body/mind interralationships.
Hip-hop is a cultural movement that began among urban African Americans and Latinos in the Bronx New York City in the early 1970s, and has since spread around the world. It is a dance without any limitations to positions and is an expression of how a dancer feels on the inside.
Jazz dance is a form of dance commonly used in Broadway shows and movies. Jazz is a looser kind of dance compared to ballet. Even though jazz dancing might look easy and fun when the dancers do it, most times the dancers have to be in really good shape, and practice sometimes six hours a day. Some traditional musical jazz numbers are All That Jazz and Chicago.
Tap The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician.

Parents
Courses are tailored for primary school children and enrolments take place throughout the year.
Open demonstration session
Before each Dance Course we organise a free one hour demonstration lesson. Interested children can take part and parent/teachers are invited to observe. This gives the participants an opportunity to judge for themselves if the course is suitable, ask any question and enrol.
How the lessons work
Children are taught in groups of 15-20 and receive 1 hour of tuition per week. Lessons take place at the end of the school day on the school premises. There are usually 10 teaching weeks in each of the three terms per year. Parents are also invited to attend lessons to observe and support their children.
Teaching Method
This is an innovative and structured course based on age and development.
We introduce and expose children to various elements of dance techniques, choreography and performance in:
Street, break, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, ballet and optional tap
The lessons involve a range of styles taught via dance instruction, practical games, improvisation, quizzes and exam preparation. Additional theory components include foundation of stage presentation and performance.
Objectives
All classes are conducted with emphasis on learning and having fun, encouraging participation of all ages and abilities.
Group work and cooperation are vital elements of the Culture & Arts Dance Programme. As well as the fun they have, children also develop vital life skills such as concentration, co-ordination, memory development and self-confidence.
Awards & Examinations
Culture & Arts DanceExaminations provide reward and encouragement for pupils if they chose to sit the exam at the completion of each course. They also give children valuable experience of an 'exam atmosphere' in a friendly and encouraging environment. After the exam pupils are given a certificate, and parents get an end of term report, so that progress can be monitored.
Staff
Culture & Arts teachers are all trained choreographers and instructors with a vast amount of experience in performance and teaching.
They use child-friendly and modern approaches to their teaching and many have professional performing careers.
All teachers are monitored to keep standards as high as possible.
Payments
Some schools secure funding and cover part or the entire course fees. Others inform interested parents.Top
